On campus, students cite climate change, economy as main concerns about election

Many college students interviewed on several campuses in New Jersey said they are assessing candidates this election season primarily based on their views on the environment and economy. And much like generations before them, they said they want their voices to be heard.
But many said they were not sure candidates are listening or tuned into their age group.
“Those in power, who are predominantly far removed from young adulthood, seem in denial of the true opinions of young adults,” said Stephen Scimeca, a senior psychology student at Centenary University in Hackettstown. “They work fruitlessly to say what they believe will attract young adults from their biased perspective,” he said about recent social media campaigns.
